Howenh, though are gods, they were not recognized as such by the Selk'nam people, but rather as mythological ancestors, since the only divinity as such is Temáukel. The constitute the great forces of nature and terraforming elements, but before becoming such elements, they existed as humans. Among the most important are Kenos, the first howenh; Kwányip and Čénuke; Kojh, howenh of the sea; Kren, howenh of the sun; Kre, howenh of the moon; Josh, howenh of the snow; and Shenrr, howenh of the wind.

We are the howenhs, the spirits of the nature, we came from the heavens…
We were sent by temaukel and kenos
We came from the four sacred mountains in the sky,
Kamuk, Keikruk, Wintek, Kenénik

We are alive!

We are immortals, we cannot die
We are the stars, brightening in the sky
We are the spirits the soul of selknam
We will live forever once again
in this land of haruwen
We are the immortals……

In the times before the men
We lived in the heavens!
In the north were: Kojh, Kwányip, O’oke, the sea, the death and the storm
In the South were: Cenuke, Josh, Kre, Akainik, the magician, the snow, the moon and rainbow
In the East were: Kenos, the creator
In the West were: Kren and Shenrr, the Sun and the wind
